From these set goals and its perception of its operating environment, such a system is able to take action to bring about a desired state. It is capable of deciding a course of action, from a number of alternatives, without depending on human oversight and control, although these may still be present. Although the overall activity of an autonomous system may be predictable, individual actions may not be. Additionally, autonomous systems may contain machine-learning capabilities which endow them with some abilities for changing their own actions without the intervention of a human. Autonomous Systems are contrasted to automated systems that can function with little human involvement, but only perform pre-programmed actions.’ ... "
